Oleta Simpson passed from this life on December 5, 2018.  While we mourn our earthly loss, we take joy in our knowledge that she was a child of God and we have the assurance of a heavenly reunion one day.

Oleta was born May 10, 1920, in Copperas Cove, Texas, to Reverend S.D. and Vera Bell Walker Lindsey.  Her father’s ministry brought the family to McKinney, Texas where she met the love of her life, Shirley T. Simpson.  They were married on April 5, 1940.  They lived in many areas of Texas before making their home in Ennis.  Oleta cared for their three young children while Shirley served his county in the Navy.

Oleta became a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in 1942 where she was an active member.  Once her children were in school, she worked for Ennis Business Forms and then the EISD Tax Office.  She retired in 1984.  Oleta was also a member of Descendants of Austin’s Old Three Hundred.

Oleta is survived by a daughter, Ann and son-in-law Roy Nicks of Nashville, TN; a daughter, Lou Vavra of Ennis and a daughter-in-law, Grace Simpson of Waxahachie; nine grandchildren: Allison Whitlock, Amy Simpson, Amanda Winn, Emily Sharp, Kim Mounce, Kelly Westman, Leah Watson, Rhonda Jones and Darren Davis; eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Shirley in 2008, her devoted son, Don Simpson, her devoted son-in-law, Bill Vavra and a brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 beginning at 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 2 p.m. in Myrtle Cemetery with Pastor David Winn officiating under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
