Betty Mae Perkins Utter
Bettie Mae Perkins Utter was born March 27, 1927, in Houston to John Cody and Clyde Perkins and died Friday, June 5, 2015, in Greenwood. She was preceded in death by her parents and her older sister, Anita Perkins (Weber). She attended Texas Women’s University and graduated from the University of Houston. She was married first to Evan H. Wathen, then Walter Randolph Utter and last to Jacque Sterenberg, who all passed away. Her two sons, Cody Hudson Wathen and Walter Randolph Utter Jr., also preceded her in death. She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn Elizabeth Wathen (Patterson) of Greenwood and Glenda Jo Utter (Remke) of Hamburg, Germany; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She taught school many years, was an expert water skier, a creative artist and a wit, and will be remembered by all as “fun to be with.” She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and Mount Auburn United Methodist Church. Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Mount Auburn United Methodist Church, 3100 W. Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood. Calling will be from 2:30 p.m. until the time of service Sunday at the church. Donations may be made to Mount Auburn Landscaping Fund, in care of G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at The Gardens at Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood.
