Dr. Linea Ann McNeel

Linea Ann McNeel, MD, passed away Wednesday morning, June 22, 2016 at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Dr. McNeel was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galveston on October 31, 1947. Her parents were Synott L. McNeel and Evelyn Schoenberg McNeel. She attended Sacred Heart School and then graduated in 1965 from Dominican High School.

She then attended her beloved The University of Texas at Austin and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Science (zoology). After graduation, she enrolled in the University of Colorado in Denver and earned a MBA in hospital administration. She continued her career as a Vice Chancellor of the University of Colorado Medical School in Denver.

In the mid-80’s, Linea entered the University of Colorado Medical School as a freshman medical student and graduated four years later. She then entered the psychiatric residency program at Emory University in Atlanta.

Once her education was complete, Linea joined the faculty at the University of Florida in Orlando and continued until returning to the area in the late 1990’s.

Most recently, Linea has worked as a faculty member at UTMB, Galveston County Jail and provided telemedicine services to Hayes County and she had previously provided psychiatric care to the patients at the Titus Harris Clinic in Galveston.

Linea is survived by her sister, Peggy McNeel Rapp and her husband, Barney Rapp, her brother, Synott Lance McNeel, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth Garcia McNeel, and sister, Katie McNeel Kyle and her husband, Ernest L. Kyle. She is also survived by her loving nephews, Brian Joseph Rapp and his wife, Veronica Gonzalez Rapp of League City and Cameron Lance McNeel and his wife, Kristen Carter McNeel of Austin and nieces, Erin Colette Rapp and her fiancé, Lorenzo Concarella of Scottsdale, AZ, Mary Evelyn Kyle, Peggy Annmarie Kyle of League City and Shannon Marie Kyle of Texas City. She is also survived by her grand-nephew, Matthew Donovan Rapp, and grand-nieces, Melanie Deniz Rapp and Madison Danielle Rapp of League City.

Pallbearers will be Barney Rapp, Ernest L. Kyle, William Bondurant, MD, Brian Rapp, Cameron McNeel.

The family wishes to offer gratitude to Vincente Valero, MD and his team at MD Anderson Cancer Center who took such excellent care of Linea during her 9-year battle with breast cancer. In addition, the family appreciates the care that was given to her at the Meridian and then the excellent care that was given in the last few days of her life at UTMB.

The family would also like to express sincere appreciation to Jose Martinez, Elizabeth Martinez and Jorge Alfaro who provided loving and careful care to Linea when needed.

Funeral Services will be arranged by J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home, located at 2128 Broadway, Galveston, Texas. Visitation will be held at J. Levy & Termini from 5 pm – 7 pm on Thursday, June 23, 2016. A private family graveside service will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Dickinson, Texas, Doug Matthews, Deacon, will officiate at both services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Halo House Foundation, 4010 Blue Bonnet Blvd, Houston, TX 77025 or MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe, Houston, TX 77030.
