Visitation for Flossie Keels, 103, of Livingston, Texas will held Tuesday, January 9, 2018, from 12:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas. A graveside service will immediately follow at the Glenwood Cemetery in Groveton, Texas.

Mrs. Keels was born May 13, 1914 in Zavala, Texas and passed away January 5, 2018 in Humble, Texas. She is a descendent from two pioneer families, Nathaniel Lynch, who came to Texas with Stephen F. Austin’s “Old Three Hundred” colonist in 1822. He was the owner of Lynch’s Ferry, which played a key role in the Texas Revolution during the “Run-Away Scrape”. Another ancestor, Stephen Jefferson Stanley came with Lorenzo de Zavala’s colonist in 1828 and settled in what is now Zavala, Texas, Angelina County.

Flossie was a graduate of Houston Business College and Lee College School of Vocational Nursing. She was in the nursing profession for 35 years before retiring in 1992, also from 1997 – 1985, she worked as a volunteer caseworker for M.H.M.R. under Dr. Duane Alcorn.

Flossie was a member of the Descendants of Austin’s “Old Three Hundred” Colonist through Nathaniel Lynch, and a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, John Floyd Gilbert Chapter along with being an avid Texas History “Buff”. She authored a book, “Know Your Texas History” which was published in 2000 and also wrote a novel “Anna’s Dream” in 2005.

Mrs. Keels is preceded in death by her parents, Stephen Jefferson and Pamela Vianna (Reed) Stanley; four brothers; seven sisters; and one grandson.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph (Bill) Keels of Livingston, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Jean Smith and Don of Dayton, Texas and Joanna and James Hammond of Kingwood, Texas; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
